William Wrightson 1714 of Cockerton Hall

Information suppiled by Zed & Ilma Malunat

Ilma is a descendant of Prof. John Wrightson WILLIAM WRIGHTSON

This son of John was younger than his brother Thomas, but nothing else is known except that this branch of the family died out.

William of Cockerton Hall was the younger of the two children of John Wrightson of Middleton-Row.  After the death of his older brother he became the owner of all that belonged to this branch of the family and was in easy circumstances.  In about 1745, the year of the last Scotch rebellion, he married Ann the daughter of the Reverend Thomas Beckett who from 1722 had been the rector of Kirby Wiske.  it is believed that a year later he bought the Cockerton Hall Estate near Darlington and lived there for the rest of his life.  He lived to the age of 93 and was buried at Long Newton
